[news] G-Dragon’s “Live Concert Album” goes to #1 instantly on Album Charts

[Daily Chart]

G-Dragon earlier released his “Shine A Light: Live Concert Album” which consisted of new remixes and a new song featuring American hip-hop artist “Flo-Rida“.

Although the album consists of no actual new songs seeing as most of them are just remixes or the ‘live concert’ versions of them, it was still able to grab the #1 spot as soon as it was released with a total of 16 songs and a Bonus CD, both on Daily Album Charts and Real-time Album Charts.

This album beat out albums from other artists that actually contained new songs such as After Shool’s ‘Bang’ and Epik High’s ‘Epilogue’. Proving once again his impact on the k-pop scene and it’s sales. What is even better is that the profits of the selling of this album will all go to charity, and if it’s at number 1 then it must mean that it is selling lots of copies that will further help the poor and the ones in need.

Q. So in G-Dragon and CN Blue's case, do you think they're guilty of plagiarism?
A. I don't think that's up to me to decide. But if someone announces "This has been plagiarised", it'll always sound a little similar to people who listen to it afterwards.
In the case of 'Loner', there are a lot of similar songs. After making a particular beat line, there aren't that many melodies that can be made out of that one rhythm to be honest. There's definitely a technical limit there, and even if songwriters do come up with slightly similar melodies it isn't that unusual.
It's the same for G-Dragon. I personally think G-Dragon's 'Heartbreaker' was one of the best songs of 2009.

[news] G-Dragon was seen bowling with 2PM’s Junsu and Nichkhun

I saw 2PM Junsu, Nichkhun, Big Bang Kwon Jiyong, Se7en, Park Hanbyul, Lee Hyuksu, and the 2NE1 coordi (yanggeng)! I had heard that they came here to hang out but seeing them in person was so amazing They were all so cool looking. Prince Nichkhun was extremely cute. Kwon Jiyong and Junsu were so hot… They were very friendly and close looking. They bowled for a really long time… Se7en and Park Hanbyul were just holding onto each other the whole time. They were all so close!

Today must be my lucky day or something! It was around 11 PM, I went down to Apkujeong’s bowling alley. I went there for the first time and saw 2PM Nichkhun with some girls bowling! About an hour later, there was a whole group formed! Big Bang’s G Dragon, 2PM Junsu, Se7en, Park Hanbyul, Lee Hyuksi, 2NE1’s coordi. I was so surprised, thought I was going to faint.
Nichkhun, Junsu, and G Dragon sat together and talked for about 10 minutes, then Junsu, GD, and Junsu’s friend, and 2NE1’s coordi formed a team and went to bowl~ Junsu got a strike and started screaming and hand shaking everyone, it was nice to watch. Most of their friends had a gyopo feel, they were mostly using English.
Se7en and Park Hanbyul, and Park Hanbyul’s friend just sat and talked the whole time… Lee Hyuksu was walking back and forth and mingling. It was cool!

I went to a bowling alley in a designer club. I recognized Nichkhun right away because he had NICH KHUN written on the back of his shirt. He was bowling with some girls, and then 2PM Junsu and Big Bang Kwon Jiyong came. I think I saw Lee Hyuksu too. Park Hanbyul and Se7en came also. It was hard not to notice because they looked like they were having so much fun. ^^

[News] Uptown's ex-member Swings wants to work with G-Dragon

Interviewer: So are there any other musicians you want to work with in the future? Limited to Korean artists. (laughs)

Swings: I’ll just mention about five people. Teddy, YDG -Yang Dong Geun hyung, and Jinbo hyung. To be honest, I didn’t really know who Jinbo hyung was.

[...] Hmm... and I also wanna work with Kwon Jiyong (G-Dragon) later on. On his album that was released last summer, there was this song called ‘The Leaders’ featuring Teddy and CL (of 2NE1). Kwon Jiyong’s lyrics were so awesome in that song. He knows the meaning of style. And I think rap lyrics are the coolest when you’re saying something that only you can say.

Like Jay-Z, he wrote something about how he helped the current President a little, and it’s true. He helped at elections and stuff. But how many other rappers in existence would be able to say that except Jay-Z? [...] In a similar way, Kwon Jiyong says what only he can. What he said was in English and roughly translates to “You should check your girl’s phone, that’s my face on her frame.”(laughs) As soon as I heard those words, I agreed straight away. He was so awesome. I realised he really knows how to work it. He really understands hip hop in terms of fashion as well as performances.

The music he’s doing right now may not be 100% hip hop, but he’s doing his own type of music and knows how to do it stylishly, so I think that’s hip hop too. And CL was mentioned before too, she’s also a really good rapper. She’s so talented and she knows the meaning of style too. I would love to work with any one of these people some time.

[news] Prosecution will not book G-Dragon

The prosecution suspended its investigation of obscenity charges against pop singer G-Dragon on Tuesday.

Prosecutors said it decided to suspend its plan to indict the singer, who had been accused of simulating sex on stage with a female dancer during a concert in December.

Criticism from netizens was especially severe because the audience was made up mostly of pre-teens.

After the show, the Ministry for Health, Welfare and Family Affairs filed a complaint against the singer and his management agency on charges of obscenity.

The prosecution said it had made its decision because the singer had only acted in accordance with the management agency's plans, and that the controversial scene made up just two minutes of the two-hour performance.

He also became friends with many singers from other management agencies. Especially SM Entertainment’s DBSK, their sunbaes in both Japan and Korea.

”I’ve recently become close with my sunbaes in DBSK. In the past there used to be a lot of unseen rivalry between different agencies but since we’re both in groups we all have a lot in common. Hero JaeJoong hyung approached me first. After that I naturally became friends with Yoochun hyung and Junsu hyung and I realised that I could be the dongsaeng too.”

He would pester the DBSK hyungs to buy him food when they were staying in Japan, and they gave him a lot of advice.

”I admired them because they’d survived in a different country with different cultures. It doesn’t matter whether people are SM or JYP or whatever anymore, I like everyone. Sometimes it just comes to me that ‘Aww that person must’ve been through a lot of pain’ or ‘I should tell this person this piece of advice’. I think our hearts are all opening towards each other now. I would like it if our hubaes (juniors) would come up and talk to us too.”

[News] G-Dragon “I like girls who have both looks and personalities like cats”

“The lyrics and melodies of the songs I’ve written are all my own experiences. Even just indirect experiences through talking to others or watching movies and stuff. When I’m in love I can only think of happy lyrics, while when I’ve just broken up only sad lyrics come to mind. Songs like ‘She’s Gone’ are a collection of the emotions I felt while watching particular movies.”

The songs G-Dragon (Real name: Kwon Jiyong, 23) writes are all his own experiences. Anyone who’s sharp would’ve picked up his true feelings while listening to his songs.

“I think I have to write honestly so that the person listening can feel what I feel. So they can feel the pain for themselves and be moved. I don’t think it’s possible for someone to be touched by a piece of music that’s been made up from nothing.”

He has, of course, been in love. But the people around him just called it ‘cute puppy love’.

“I thought I was in love but my closest friends still tell me ‘You’ve never been in real love’. Maybe because I’m the type of person who suddenly gets really crazy about something and equally suddenly gets over it. Though I do date for a while...”

He’s also the type of person who gives everything he has to the woman he loves. Even to the point where it sometimes causes inconvenience to his work. He shows his natural unmade self, wanting to be seen just as Kwon Jiyong, not a celebrity; for this reason he is very open even in crowds.

“It’s childish, but I did all that stuff like letting out balloons from the trunk, and borrowing cafés for the day to do mini concerts. (laughs) I didn’t want my girlfriend to think of me as a celebrity so I would go to amusement parks with her with my face covered, and did everything she wanted to do. People say I’m an idiot for not caring about causing scandals. Even President Yang tells me that I have to be careful to meet the right girl.”

His ideal type is a girl who’s ‘like a cat’.

“I like girls who look have both looks and personalities like cats. I’m attracted to girls who run away when I try to catch them, but approach me and throw themselves in my arms when I stop trying. Someone I can lean on. Someone who can control me from above? I like girls who are fierce and strong. At least when I’m in love, I want to be able to have someone to lean on and rest with.”

After experiencing the sorrow of separating a few times, his thoughts on love have changed.

”I can never break up with someone first. I just can’t say it. If I start a new love in the future, I’m not going to give my all right from the beginning. I want to love slowly now.”

[NEWS] G-Dragon’s concert is expected to be broadcasted in Japan

Japanese TV broadcasting company TBS revealed that it will exclusively broadcast G-Dragon’s first solo concert Shine a Light on Feb. 13th. 11PM. Given Japan’s forgiving TV standards on sex and violence especially during at late night, there is a strong possibility that the concert will be aired without any censorship and include parts that were found unlawful to be shown in the public.

The problem is that the concert contains performances (sexual, violent, etc.) that cannot be shown in Korea and the broadcasting of the concert can be recorded and be handed to anyone in Korea through the internet. G-Dragon is still under investigation for whether he had violated any law for his contoversial solo concert.

BIGBANG was at the Yokohama Arena,Kanagawa, today (February 9th) to launch the 「ELECTRIC LOVE TOUR 2010」Caravan Cheer. The ads wrapped bus departs from Yokohama Arena to promote the concert. The design was done by all the BIGBANG member.

D-Lite: “I want to take a look at the design of the tour bus.”

When asked about the clash of the idea over the design.

SOL: “Not that at all.We get along well with each other.” then added “I love the colors that represent “electric” and “love.”"

[news] GD 15-Part Interview Pt.12- “My solo album was a gamble”

Kwon Jiyong’s ‘Heartbreaker’ saw the light of this world on August 18, 2009. This day also happened to be G-Dragon’s birthday.

”It was actually scheduled to be out in April, but I didn’t like it. I didn’t feel like a piece of work that I’d been looking forward to for ten years; there was just something missing. I didn’t know how long it would be til my turn to go solo came again.. That one album was a gamble for me.”

During the preparation of his solo album, Big Bang started Japanese promotions. During the months they were active there, if there was nothing on G-Dragon’s schedule for even a single day, he would fly back to Korea to work on the album and fly back at night. While the other members felt the freedom of being able to shop and have fun without being watched or followed, G-Dragon was out of his mind looking for performance outfits.

”Writing songs, buying performance outfits, being at meetings via webcam..I think my album was the only thing I was thinking about for 24 hours a day. I wanted to make an album that I had contributed to as much as possible. I wanted people to think not just that it’s been ‘made’, but ‘Kwon Jiyong made this’. I even went a little over the top by concerning over things like font, colour and decoration. I wanted to release an album that seemed more like a wrapped up gift than a normal, standard CD. So that people can open the case like a present and anticipate what might be inside, even if its not expensive. I think the album designers might’ve thought I was a big weird; I would call in the middle of the night whenever I got a new idea. (laughs)”

He became totally immersed in working on his album.

”Heartbreaker is about being hurt by love. To express that my heart had been crushed, I made all the dancers wear my mask and do different dances. It was to show different emotions coming out of the same face.”

He experienced a lot of differences to when he was making an album with the other members. He had to fill in every aspect himself, letting him mature more as an artist and realise how valuable the other members really were.

”I learnt so much from making my album. I met with a lot of people from different fields. It was also my turn to play the ‘Cutesy’ part that Daesung and Seungri usually take responsibility for. But I had to show a serious side to the higher ups. Anyhow, I was able to mingle with a lot of different people and learnt more interpersonal skills.”

When an artist releases an album, they usually put all their effort into promoting it. However promotion of G-Dragon’s album through newspapers and TV stations was minimal as YG Entertainment considers performances more important than promotions.

”I was really worried because we had barely promoted. Then I found out about something called ‘Me2day’. It’s like a blog. President Yang told me ‘This is the one way we have chosen to promote. You can do your own promoting.’ He’s always like that. He’ll open the road for us bit by bit and we have to find our own way through it. Anyway, I started showing fans bits and pieces like an outfit for a music video and a strand of my newly dyed hair. I wanted to be the one to show them my music first before any music portal sites so I even gave them 30 second snippets of a few songs. I kept thinking things like ‘If they check for updates before they go to bed and there has been an update, they’d be happy that they can talk about it the next day at school, right?’ I think it was a heart-fluttering period for both me and the fans.”

Thanks to G-Dragon, Me2day also received huge popularity. The site that had only had tens of thousands of members suddenly had hundreds of thousands. Again, G-Dragon started receiving attention from a huge number of people but just as he felt like he was starting to communicate with his fans, he was accused of plagiarism. This was just one day before the release of his album.

[NEWS]G-dragon's [Shine a Light] is now on DVD

G-Dragon's first solo concert 「Shine a Light」 is now in DVD!

The release info is from kan kan (a Korean DVD import webshop in Japan). Since there's no official info from YGeSHOP and YGEJ (YG Entertainment Japan).

The DVD is available only on booking with NO subtitles in Japan and can be played only on a Region 3 DVD player.It's due to out in February.

Unfortunately some of the controversial songs from  the show will be deleted  (Breathe,Korean Dream and She's Gone) ,in order to avoid any law infringement that may happen.

Watch the show on TBS on 02/13 at 23:00.
