[news] Nate's Most Searched Celebrities List Released!
Usually, being the most searched celebrity on a search engine shows the fame that a certain person has. Well 2009 wasn't any different for these headline hoggers.
The most searched artists on Korean search engine and media portal Nate.com in 2009 was the new girl group 2NE1. They debuted with their single "Fire" in May of this year. So in over half a year, they became the most searched artists on Nate. What a big achievement considering the fact that 2PM and SNSD came in second and third respectively.
Who was the most searched actor? It was no other than Flower Boy Lee Min Ho! It was a great year for the star of "Boys Over Flower" as he became a CF magnet and definitely has been a headline hogger.

[News]Han Ye-seul for Twilight Saga:Eclipse?
It is being reported (strategically leaked?) that Han Ye-seul, who is currently acting in the new SBS melodrama series Will It Snow For Christmas?, recently took a secret meeting with Mark Morgan, CEO of Imprint Entertainment, the production company behind Twilight and New Moon. Naturally, this has given rise to speculation that Han Ye-seul’s Hollywood debut may come in the third film of the Twilight saga, Eclipse.
News of the meeting was confirmed by a source related to the “Phone Hollywood remake project,” which is also under Imprint’s purview. Han quietly met with Morgan and film producer Michael Becker on December 5 at an undisclosed location in Seoul. (They were in the country to announce the Phone remake at a press conference on the 3rd.)
I’d take the possibility of a Twilight appearance with a huge grain of salt — I think it’s more likely she’d be cast for Phone — but apparently it’s not out of the question. The source avoided the direct question of Han’s casting potential for Eclipse, but when Chosun Ilbo’s reporter asked whether one could “take an optimistic outlook” about it, the answer was “Yes.” Meanwhile, Phone’s director had said at the recent press conference that he’d like to cast a Korean actress. The horror remake will use a Korean crew and director, but plans to cast American actors.
In general, this isn’t surprising news, since Han has been keeping an eye out for Hollywood opportunities since last year. I think her acting ranges from merely passable (Tazza) to bright and cute (Fantasy Couple, Miss Gold Digger), and on the whole it’s much improved from her early days. Furthermore, she’s one of few Korean actresses whose English is fluent without an accent and she grew up in California, so unlike some other stars attempting the crossover, language isn’t an issue. Language fluency also opens the door for her to take on roles outside the role of the stereotypical Asian Other — e.g., the ubiquitous assassin or martial artist a la Jeon Ji-hyun, Lee Byung-heon, or Rain.
[News]Rerun ratings surpass original broadcast for Christmas
Wow, this is unusual. The ratings were actually higher for reruns of Will It Snow For Christmas? than they were for the drama’s original broadcast. Thinking about it, this makes some sense since IRIS is so strong on Wednesdays and Thursdays, but still, it’s rare that a rerun — shown on a weekend afternoon — would actually record higher numbers than its primetime premiere. Episodes 1 and 2 originally brought in an 8.6% and a 7.7% during the week; Sunday’s rebroadcast brought in an 8.7% and 11.4%.
With the childhood portions acted to high praise by Nam Ji-hyun and Kim Soo-hyun, look for the story to heat up in the coming week for their adult counterparts, played by Han Ye-seul and Go Soo.
Nam Ji-hyun has a history of overshadowing her older counterparts with her engaging, emotive acting — or at least giving them a run for their money — so Han Ye-seul may have her work cut out for her. On the upside, creating a strong audience connection to a childhood character is also to the adult actor’s benefit. (Nam’s past portrayals were taken over in the adult storylines by Lee Yo-won of Queen Seon-deok, Han Ji-hye of East of Eden, Jang Jin-young of Lobbyist, and Lee Yoon-ji of Great King Sejong.)

[News]Will It Snow for Christmas kicks off new midweek ratings battle
Perhaps Christmas was hoping for more, given that its writer Lee Kyung-hee gave us I’m Sorry, I Love You and PD Choi Moon-seok directed What Happened in Bali. But it’s still early enough for Christmas to rise once IRIS wraps in a couple weeks, and melodramas typically start out a bit slower and work up to their big conflicts as they progress. I’m guessing (from pre-show info) that much of this week’s episodes centered around the childhood flashbacks with Han Ye-seul’s and Go Soo’s characters.
Hero is still facing a tough uphill battle; its slight uptick is good, but not really promising in the big picture. It’s an oddball drama whose fun is in its witty dialogue and small comic beats, so it is finding it harder to hook fans when its competition is giving audiences Loud and Big: explosions, gunfire, tears, and tragedy. Despite that, it is earning positive praise among its small but mighty fanbase.

[news]First stills for Will It Snow On Christmas
First stills are out for the upcoming SBS series Will It Snow On Christmas, which feature star Han Ye-seul dressed up to attend her character’s engagement party.
In the drama, she is the first love to Go Soo’s character, but the two separate in their youths and she becomes engaged in this scene to Song Jong-ho. Go Soo attends the ceremony to take the place of a sick friend and sees her there, shocked to recognize his childhood friend. These scenes were filmed on October 26 at an outdoor cafe in Yangju, Kyeonggi-do.
Assistant director Shin Kyung-soo said, “Despite the fact that this was the drama’s first shoot, Han Ye-seul worked naturally with the team as though they’d been working together for a long time. She’s really approaching every scene of this drama passionately.”
Will It Snow on Christmas will air on Wednesdays and Thursdays following You’re Beautiful and premieres on December 2. The scene pictured in these stills will air the following day in Episode 2. Coming from the director and writer behind What Happened In Bali and I’m Sorry, I Love You (respectively, not together), Christmas looks like it’ll deliver intensity and melodrama — or at least, so we can hope.
