[News] Super Junior Wows Malaysian Fans

KUALA LUMPUR: South Korean boyband Super Junior wowed 15,000 fans in an electrifying performance at their sell-out concert at Bukit Jalil Putra Stadium.

The boys belted out 35 songs in Korean, Mandarin and English during the three-hour-long concert on Saturday night, delighting fans with hits such as Who Am I, Super Girl, Shining Star, Sorry Sorry, Wonder Boy and Marry U.

Enthusiastic “ELFs” (short for Ever Lasting Friends used to refer to Super Junior fans) waved glowsticks in pearl sapphire blue – the boybands’ official colour – and screamed wildly throughout the show.

Some even camped out at the concert venue the previous night while others arrived hours before showtime.

All the concert props were flown in from South Korea and the special stage which cost the organisers some RM6mil to build offered the boyband more opportunities to interact with their fans.

Local Mandopop duo Thomas Jack and teen singer Iqwal served as the opening acts at the concert.

The concert marks Super Juniors third official visit to Malaysia.

They featured as guest performers at their label-mate TVXQs 1st Asia Tour in 2007 and were last here to attend the MTV Asia Awards 2008 as well as collect their award as Favourite Artiste (Korea).

The boyband also attended a brief press conference before the concert. Present were the 10 members of the group: Leeteuk, Heechul, Yesung, Shindong, Sungmin, Eunhyuk, Donghae, Siwon, Ryeowook and Kyuhyun.

Debuting in 2005, Super Junior comprises 13 members, which makes them the biggest boyband in the world.

The boys have 19 releases to their name including studio and live albums as well as singles, compilations, soundtrack and various other collaborations.

The concert was organised by Redstar Presents and the event managed by Marctensia with SMEntertainment and Dream Maker as concert supervisors.

On March 19, the production of Korean War movie Into the Gunfire opened up its Gyeongsangnam-do (a southern province) set location to the media for a look behind the scenes and an informal press conference.

If you’ve missed the plot description in the previous posts, the gist is this: The film is set in August 1950, when North Korean troops invaded the South, and focuses around a group of 71 student soldiers who held their ground to fight back in a pivotal battle of the war.

Kwon Sang-woo and TOP are among those 71, while IRIS’s Kim Seung-woo plays a South Korean lieutenant, and Cha Seung-won (of the IRIS sequel) portrays a North Korean military officer. (Into the Gunfire is produced by Taewon Entertainment, which produced IRIS and is planning the upcoming Athena.) The Woman Who Still Wants To Marry’s Park Jin-hee also stars, although she is not pictured here.

The greatest difficulty for the actors in filming this movie, as with many projects shot this winter, has been the particularly cold weather. It doesn’t help that because the film takes place in August, the costumes and uniforms have been lightweight. Also, to achieve realistic appearances as hungry soldiers in wartime, the entire cast had to lose weight. Cha Seung-won, for instance, dropped 3 kg (and he’s an actor I’d have guessed didn’t have 3 kg to spare).

Kwon Sang-woo plays a young soldier who chooses to serve in the battlefield over juvenile detention, and clashes with TOP’s character. Kwon explained the difference between this project and his prior ones, saying that this has greater scope.

TOP said, “In war or training scenes, I tend to get injured frequently, but I’m giving it my all. Especially since I’m working with such outstanding sunbae actors, I feel like every day is a chance to learn a lot and progress.”

Into the Gunfire will release in movie theaters in June (which is also the same month that Korean War-themed drama Road No. 1 premieres on television).

[2010.03.22] Baseball coach Jerry Royster is a Kara fan.

Lotte Giant's coach Jerry Royster attracted attention when he revealed that he is a fan of idol girl-group Kara.

On the 21st evening, coach Royster attended the 'Lotte Giant's Season Opening Celebration' that opened at BEXCO in Busan's Haeundae, where he spent a pleasant time with more than 13.000 fans along with the players.

On that day, DJ DOC, Brown Eyed Girls, Kara, BEAST, 4minute, Girls' Generation among others, performed at the event, adding to the excitement.

There was one group in particular that coach Royster could not take his eyes off during the performance. That group was Kara. From the moment Kara stepped up on the stage, you could see nothing but smiles on coach Royster's face. When the performance was over, he even gave them a standing ovation.

On top of that, coach Royster personally visited the singers waiting room. The reason for that was none other than to take a souvenir picture with Kara.

There is a reason on how coach Royster became a Kara fan. The name of the group 'Kara' also happens to be the name of his second daughter. Because of that, coach Royster became interested in Kara and soon, he found himself enjoying their songs, growing into the fan he is now.

T-ara's Jiyeon's has been criticized for her dual personalities.

On T-ara's co-produced reality show, 'T-aradotcom,' Jiyeon has been involved in slight fun criticism. T-ara were given the chance on the latest episode to design and create leggings. They visited a clothing factory making clothes, and adding in their own taste and personality with a lot of enthusiasm.

Members made self-made leggings and attracted a lot of attention. Their leggings were given names from crew members, Hyomin's was the 'pretty woman' leggings, Qri the 'smile bling bling' leggings and Jiyeon the 'dual personality' leggings.' Jiyeon decided to use forth two odd colors for her leggings, producing a unique and dual-personality legging from the back and front. Crew members called her the 'double woman.'

T-ara hold a press conference earlier this month regarding establishment for the mall.

A MNET rep said, "T-ara took upon the challenge to establish an online shopping mall through their reality TV show, 'T-aradotcom.' In the show you can see T-ara in diverse and unexpected situations. They have fun in the store," he said.
