[News]Solo Singers Are Now Getting Ready For 2010

Boy and girl bands may have conquered music charts last year, but solo singers are aiming at comebacks in 2010. But will they be able to win over fans amid the popularity of idol groups?

http://krnloop.files.wordpress.com/2007/12/hyo-lee-fashion.jpg

Lee Hyo-ri and Kim Jong-kook, the two stars of the first season of the popular show "Family is Out!" are returning to the small screen as singers this February. Netizens expressed their anticipation as the news spread that they were returning to the idol group dominated music scene, and experts are expecting a year of more diversity.

According to her agency, Mnet Media, the singer has once again been working on lyrics for her new album, as she believes it is the only way to distinguish herself from younger artists.

"She sees that coming up with lyrics that can touch the listener is most important," the agency said through a statement.

Lee wrote a number of songs on her last albums, including "Don't Cry" and "Closer."
Her fourth album will be released early next month.

Kim Jong-kook, on the other hand, is returning with an array of ballads. The 32-year-old will release his sixth album, his first in more than a year.

The former member of popular duo Turbo has garnered fans with his sweet, emotional voice and tender ballads. The talented singer has also appeared in numerous television shows, the most recent being "Family is Out!"

While his songs have touched the hearts of female fans in the past, it'll be interesting to see if the singer ― who played a rather comical character on television ― can deliver romantic tracks once again.

Female singer Son Dam-bi is releasing a new mini-album in late February. The 26-year-old captivated fans with her disco number "Saturday Night" and "Crazy," but failed to leave any indelible marks, donning sexy, shiny outfits and funky makeup that are all too common today.

The young singer may have surprised fans with her catchy songs and powerful dance moves over the past year, but she will need to step up her game to compete with fellow solo artists and idol groups.

Fellow singer Seo In-young is also planning to return to the stage as a solo singer. The 25-year-old had been a member of pop group Jewelry for the past nine years, but she dropped out of the group along with Park Jung-ah.

Seo has already surprised fans with her vocals on her solo albums and also an original soundtrack number for popular drama "Iris" (KBS, 2009).

Se7en, who has spent three years in the U.S. trying to tap into the American music industry, will also return to the local stage with a new album. The tall, talented singer gained fans with his hit number "Passion," but then moved his attention overseas, releasing an album in China and moving to the U.S. Although he released a digital single called "Girls" featuring famous American rapper Lil' Kim and has also been working with Amerie, the singer failed to make a lasting impression in the U.S., and returned to Korea. He is currently working on his new album which will be released this spring.

2010 – Step aside idols, it’s time for the luxurious solo singers comeback?

We saw how the idols flooded and dominated the Korean music market in 2009. A year where there were both the girlgroup and boygroup hype periods. But coming 2010, the Korean music market will take a change. With the comeback of ‘luxurious’ solo singers, it seems that the atmosphere of the Korean music scene will be different.

We are seeing the comeback of female vocal powerhouses like Lee Hyori, Yoon MiRae, YangPa, JOO; and also male crooners like Shin SeungHoon, Kim DongRyul, Yoo HeeYeol and Sung ShiKyung etc.

2010 is said to be the start of luxurious solo singers’ generation.

The boom of the strong personality female singers

We see one of the most striking of all the comebacks are those of the female solo singers. Because they are the ones with strong personalities. From ‘trendsetter’ Lee Hyori to sensational vocals YangPa and JOO, music fans will get to feast on various styles of music from them.

Here are the rest of the female solo comebacks.

* Lee Hyori – one of the most anticipated female comeback singers of the year. Known for having great dance and songs personalities, she is set to release her album early this year. Currently it is known that 80% of her new album is completed.
* Yoon MiRae – known for her rhythmical rapping and great ballads, it is announced that she will comeback mid-January. There are also music which she had personally composed for the album.
* YangPa – she will comeback with a new minialbum coming February after 2 years away from the music scene.
* JOO – Anticipated JYP ballad singer JOO will be back. Despite her tender age, she is known for her sensational vocals, and because of this specialty it seems that she will be back again with ballad music for her comeback this year.

The inflood of male musicians

It seems that the comeback of the male musicians will give a different treat to the ears. And some of the representative singers in this area are Shin SeungHoon, Yoo HeeYeol and Kim DongRyul etc.

Here are the male musician comebacks:

* Shin SeungHoon will release the last of his 3-parts minialbum series. It will be his 20th year anniversary this year since his singer debut.
* Ballad singers Kim DongRyul and Sung ShiKyung will also be back with some sensational music. It will be his comeback after 2 years for Kim DongRyul, his last album in 2008 was a success. And it will be Sung ShiKyung’s 1st album release since he returned to the music scene after coming out of the army.
* Yoo HeeYeol will also back with some sad ballads.

Idol singers continue to reign?

Of course, there will be many idol singers’ comeback in 2010. Already, we know about upcoming comebacks for 2AM, 2NE1, KARA, So Nyeo Shi Dae etc. These idols will follow up with the great popularity they received from their mini or full-length albums released in 2009.

But with the comeback of the ‘luxurious’ solo singers, it will be a right-on face-off between the solo long-running and new idol singers.

The 2009 MAMA (Mnet Asia Music Awards) have been plagued with bad news from the very beginning and here's some more.

Along with the two trot singers and SM Entertainment boycotting the MAMA's, Pledis Entertainment and their stars After School and Son Dambi have announced that they will not be attending the award show as well.

Pledis Entertainment stated:
"Because of Son Dambi's concert in LA, she will be abroad. After School is currently finishing up preparations for their next album to be released towards the end of November, therefore it will be difficult to attend."

Although Pledis is not boycotting, their stars won't be able to attend and quite frankly, it seems they don't believe the MAMA's are very significant anyway.
