"Still, it was not without its controversy. A south-Korean girl group called 2NE1 claimed Richie’s title track “Just Go” was a bit too similar to their earlier release “I Don’t Care.” Though Richie hasn’t discussed the claim, Universal Music Group is investigating.

He has a career that spans four decades, has sold more than 100 million albums and has won more than a dozen American Music Awards, but Lionel Richie isn’t done yet. His latest album, “Just Go,” was released last spring and now Richie is on the road making a stop Saturday at the MGM Grand at Foxwoods.

Richie has released 13 solo albums since leaving the Commodores in 1982, including two compilation CDs. Though his biggest successes were in the ’80s, in recent years, Richie has done well on the album charts. His 2006 release, “Coming Home,” debuted at No. 6 on the Billboard 200 chart, becoming his biggest debut since 1986’s “Dancing On the Ceiling.”

That album happened to come out at a time when his daughter, Nicole, was at the height of her popularity. Not surprisingly, she happened to star in the music video for the lead single, “I Call It Love.” And Nicole was asked to appear on several talk shows around the time of the album’s release. But whatever the reason for the success of “Coming Home,” it prompted Richie to get right back to work and in 2007 he started recording “Just Go.”

Richie’s latest album features collaborations with Akon as well as songs written and produced by Ne-Yo and The Dream. The album was described by cduniverse.com as “pop/R&B perfection” and album buyers must have thought the same. The CD got off to a great start on the charts internationally, breaking the Top 10 of the U.S. R&B Album chart and peaking at No. 1 on the UK R&B chart.

Still, it was not without its controversy. A south-Korean girl group called 2NE1 claimed Richie’s title track “Just Go” was a bit too similar to their earlier release “I Don’t Care.” Though Richie hasn’t discussed the claim, Universal Music Group is investigating.

In the meantime, Richie’s tour is heating up. After spending the spring on a European tour, Richie is finally stateside and will be making a stop at the MGM Grand at Foxwoods Saturday night. As for Richie’s future, he said details on a long-promised Commodores reunion could be released by the end of the year.
