[News] Lee Jun-ki wins Martial Arts Actor award

Korean actor Lee Jun-ki will receive an award for his contribution in promoting Korea's traditional martial arts to the public through his work, according to his agency on Thursday.

Mentor Entertainment announced in a press release that the Korea Martial Arts Coalition (KMAC) will hand Lee the Martial Arts Actor award at an awards ceremony on December 20.

Lee had done martial arts in the SBS drama "Iljimae" and MBC's "Time Between Dog And Wolf."

"When I'm doing action scenes, I can show the beauty of the physical body as well as the beauty of action movements," Lee was quoted as saying. "To me, all the wounds I've gotten from doing action scenes feel like badges of honor. I am very honored and grateful to receive this award."

An official at KMAC explained that there has been a growing interest in the media to promote traditional martial arts to the general public and that Lee's work in his dramas have helped raise awareness of the sport. 

Lee shot to instant stardom in 2005 playing a woman-like clown in the hit film "The King and the Clown" and was recently voted the most popular Korean Wave star in China. He currently stars in MBC TV series "Hero" as a passionate reporter working for a third-rate magazine.

[News] Korean actor Lee Byung-hun sued for alleged sexual misconduct

Korean superstar Lee Byung-hun has been sued by an estranged girlfriend for alleged sexual misconduct.

The woman, known only as Miss Kwon, is a 22-year-old Korean-Canadian student studying rhythmic gymnastics at York University in Canada.

Kwon claimed that a friend had introduced her to the "GI Joe" actor in September 2008 while he was on a promotional tour in Toronto for the film "The Good, The Bad and The Weird" which he starred in.

Kwon charged that the 39-year-old Lee lured her into a sexual relationship with false promises of marriage and seeks 100 million won (S$119,000) in damages.

A day after the suit was filed with the Seoul District Court, Kwon also claimed that Lee habitually gambled illegally while filming in the United States and Canada. Exactly when and where these gambling activities took place remains unclear.

Lee's management company BH Entertainment denied all allegations and insisted that "Lee has never committed any act that deserves to be criticised", though a representative admitted that the star "did have a girlfriend whom he met last autumn and broke up with this spring".

BH Entertainment also revealed that Lee had been the target of an extortion attempt in November.

They claimed to have received multiple phone calls from an unidentified man who threatened to expose Lee's relationship with Kwon unless the actor paid him two billion won (S$2.3 million), adding that "all allegations against Lee are apparently to damage his reputation by those with malicious intent".

U-KISS’s 1st fanmeeting

On the 9th, U-KISS who has gained a lot of fame through their latest single “Man Man Ha Ni” held their 500th days since debut celebration as well as Kibum’s birthday party with fans through GOM TV’s Fanmeeting Program ‘Only 4 You’.

On that day, U-KISS members and the fans played an OX Quiz called “I Like You” to find out whether there is female idol that they like. 5 out of 7 members responded with an “O”.

Especially Dongho, who smiled shyly and revealed “IU nuna, I like you. You sing very well, so cute and lively.”

The other 4 members who raised an “O” are Kevin who revealed that he likes 2NE1’s Sandara Park, Kibum’s f(x) Sulli, Eli’s Rainbow’s Sae Kyung Eul, Soohyun’s f(x) Victoria. Soohyun added “Victoria’s nostril is very beautiful” which created a huge laughter at the fan meeting.

The event was held to celebrate U-KISS’s 500th day as well as Kibum’s birthday. A cake was brought out and tears were coming out from their eyes as they were reminiscing through the past 500 days.

최근 2PM은 정규 1집 타이틀곡 '하트비트(Heart Beat)' 무대 엔딩에서 멤버들이 한 명씩 죽는 퍼포먼스로 관심을 모으고 있다. 멤버들이 돌아가면서 각각 장렬하게 죽음을 맞이하는 엔딩 장면에서 유독 닉쿤은 택연의 심장을 뜯는 등 '다크 닉쿤'으로 변할 뿐 죽음을 맞이하진 않아 눈길을 끈다.

2PM의 엔딩 무대를 본 네티즌들은 '닉쿤은 죽으면 정말 하늘로 승천할 것 같다' '닉쿤이 죽을 땐 날개가 나올지도 모른다'며 '닉쿤 천사설'까지 제기하고 있는 상황.

관계자 측은 "평소 이미지상 닉쿤은 죽지 않는다"고 밝혔다.

평소 하얀 피부와 여린 이미지로 '태국왕자'라는 애칭까지 얻은 닉쿤의 이미지상 강한 엔딩은 어울리지 않는다는 것.

[News] Idol girlgroup members pick 2PM TaecYeon as #1 male idol member

Girlgroup members have picked 2PM TaecYeon as the #1 male idol.

On Star Golden Bell filmed on 7th December, various girlgroup members have appeared on the show like Davichi Kang MinKyung, 4Minute HyunA, After School JooYeon, SeeYa BoRam SooMi and Secret Jeon HyoSeong.

And MC Jeon HyunMoo asked Kang MinKyung, “Which male idol do you get most nervous when you see him” and she answered 2PM TaecYeon.

[News] Kwon Sang-woo for IRIS 2?

With Lee Byung-heon most likely leaving the IRIS franchise behind when the series ends later this month, how would you feel about Kwon Sang-woo stepping in as the next leading man? According to Kwon himself, he was offered that possibility.

On December 11, he appeared on the KBS morning show Yeo Yoo Man Man to say, “These days, I’m enjoying watching IRIS. Actually, the movie I’m filming now (Into the Gunfire) is being made by the same production company as IRIS, and I received an offer to be in IRIS 2.”

However, a rep from Kwon’s side made sure to clarify the situation in a phone interview with My Daily on the 11th: “Kwon Sang-woo is currently filming the movie Into the Gunfire, and IRIS hasn’t ended yet. Casting talks aren’t yet serious. When he met with the production company president, he was asked lightly, ‘What do you think of doing it?’ IRIS 2 doesn’t yet have a director or actors, and it’s not time for casting talks yet. He was only expressing that he likes the show. Kwon Sang-woo isn’t the type to decide on a project easily. Currently, he’s fielding a lot of offers within Korea and from abroad. Of course, if he ends up shooting IRIS 2 that would be great, but the script and role may change. He plans to focus on his acting activities beginning next year.”

(Talk about protesting too much, eh? In my overactive imagination, I am seeing two possible scenarios: Either they’re trying to keep Kwon’s schedule wide open for other possibilities and don’t want to commit, or he made a faux pas by mentioning IRIS, pissed of people at Taewon, and has to now backtrack. Note that I’m making all this up in my head, but it’s amusing to ponder.)

Despite all that backpedaling and the fact that it seems too early to seriously consider casting, I’d actually like to see Kwon Sang-woo playing a spy in IRIS 2. He’s had a rough couple of years, which is partly bad luck but also partly due to questionable choices. I think he’d be a great successor for Lee Byung-heon as a recognizable Hallyu star who would have as much to gain from the role as the drama would for having him. He’s still famous, but he hasn’t had a good role in years and his post-army career has been less successful than his buddies like Song Seung-heon and So Ji-sub, populated by one disappointment after another. (His recent projects: melodrama Bad Love, weepie flop More than Blue, and underwhelming trendy drama Cinderella Man.)

SS501 held a press conference after their arrival in Hong Kong. They'll have their PERSONA Concert in Hong Kong - Asia World Expo on 12 December 2009. SS501 arrived in Hong Kong International Airport at around 3pm. A lot of fans specially greet and welcome them at the arrival hall this afternoon. The Press Conference was originally scheduled at 5:30pm, however, SS501 was late for about 25 minutes. All 5 members were very polite and said "Sorry, we're late" in Cantonese as soon as they arrived in the Press Conference Venue.

Member, Park Jung Min indicated that he loved to watch Hong Kong Movies since he was a kid and he stated that he is going to sing Leslie Cheung's song, named "追" (Meaning: Chase) in Hong Kong Persona Concert. Leader Kim Hyun Joong said he knew there will be sales in many department stores and that made him felt very happy. This time, he would like to visit Lan Kwai Fong. Reporters in the press conference asked leader if he'll still visit Lan Kwai Fong as there'll be a lot of paparazzi over there. Leader replied that he'd not mind and it's good for SS501 if the reporters and the paparazzi go to take pictures of them, enlarge the photographs and post in the newspapers front page.

Who is the most popular guy and girl chosen by idol groups SS501 and KARA?

In SBS ‘Intimate Note 2’ broadcasted on 11-Dec, boy group and girl group of the same management company, SS501 and KARA attended with each others’ company, showing their strong friendship since trainee days.

SS501 and KARA chose the members whom they think is the most popular among each other’s group during the filming.

In the popularity voting, it is made up of group dance for the 1st round and self-PR time for 2nd round. SS501 danced to KARA’s butt dance together and heated up the atmosphere with their attractiveness.

In addition, KyuJong talked in Jeolla-do dialect and imitated Kim JongSeo, HyunJoong reenact perfectly to senior idol Scheskies’s “PoomSaengPoomSa”. JungMin and YoungSaeng, HyungJoon also displayed their flair in singing.

[News] SJ-M say their byes and feast on fast food

South Korean Mandopop sensation Super Junior-M (SJ-M) recently completed their seven day and six evening “Taiwan Tour” and embarked back to South Korea on the morning of December 9th. Nearly 500 fans jam-packed Taoyuan International Airport to bid farewell to the South Korean megastar group, where once the group broke through the cordon, the seven members were quickly rushed into the clear for their return flight with the aid of security personnel. SJ-M remarked that they were deeply impressed by the enthusiasm of the Taiwanese fans, claimed that the person who loved to buy stuff the most was Siwon, and said that next time they go to Taiwan, that they would do some serious shopping.

The group came to Taiwan with a full schedule and they had no time for fine dining. On the day before leaving Taiwan, their meals consisted entirely of fast food. Employees pointed out that the group ate Burger King for breakfast, McDonald’s for lunch, and KFC for dinner, and were therefore hailed as “the best group to bring up”.
