[news] Lee Byung-hun cleared of gambling charges

Korean actor Lee Byung-hun has been cleared of illegal gambling charges filed against him last year by his former girlfriend.

The Seoul Central Prosecutors' Office ruled Friday that "there is no evidence" Lee had been involved in habitual gambling overseas, an allegation made early December by the Korean-Canadian woman identified only by her last name Kwon.

A legal dispute between the two fired up when Kwon lodged a complaint to court saying she was allured into having a sexual relationship with the actor on his false promises of marriage and demanded she be compensated for physical and psychological damage she suffered.

She also accused the actor of gambling while on shoots overseas and distributed a photograph of the two of when they were a couple to backup her claims.

Prosecutors also acknowledged that Kwon had tried to defame Lee's reputation, as the actor's legal representatives had claimed through a countersuit, but ordered a stay of prosecution with Kwon having departed for Canada.

Meanwhile, baseball player-turned-TV personality Kang Byung-kyu, who too was sued by Lee, was indicted without detention for defamation and attempted blackmail.

Kang had already been indicted for his alleged involvement in an assault case on the set of TV series "Iris" which he visited in mid-December over talk that Chung Tae-won, chief of Taewon Entertainment and producer of the hit show, had spread false rumor that he was behind the feud between Lee and Kwon.

Lee, 39, has appeared in numerous Korean dramas and films, including TV series "All In" and director Park Chan-wook's 2000 film "Joint Security Area".

He also debuted in Hollywood last year with a supporting role in "G.I. Joe: The Rise of Cobra" alongside Channing Tatum and Sienna Miller and starred in action thriller "I Come with the Rain" with Josh Hartnett and Takuya Kimura which also showed in theaters in 2009.

[News] Lee Byung Hyun's ex girlfriend, Kwon Mi-Yeon is participating in her investigation through email

It was reported that Lee Byung-Hun’s previous girlfriend Kwon Mi-Yeon (Diana Kwon) participated in the ongoing investigation for lawsuit through email. Although she is not required to show up in person for the court day of her ~$100,000 lawsuit against Lee Byung-Hun on Feb. 18th, many lawyers agree that she won’t win the judges unless she shows up in person and actively defend herself in court.

Also, Kwon Mi-Yeon hasn’t selected a lawyer to defend her case yet. She didn’t turn in additional evidence or statements other than the original statement for her lawsuit. There are still no signs of Kwon Mi-Yeon coming back to Korea for the case and since she is continuing her investigation through email, there is a possibility of her not coming back to Korea. Some even suspect that a mutual agreement between Lee Byung-Hun and Kwon Mi-Yeon has been made.

This seems like a big change of heart from Kwon Mi-Yeon who was actively defending herself while she was in Korea through many media exposure including interviews. She also had requested allKoreanGossip.com to delete her pictures from her MySpace homepage through email.

Nothing has been reported on what was asked and what was answered though the email investigation and the police will not make any pre-annoucement until they finish up their investigation.

[news] No end in sight to Lee Byung-hun saga

SEOUL: A former Korean baseball pitcher has accused the president of the production company behind hit Korean drama serial "Iris" of hiring thugs to assault him.

According to The Korean Times, Kang Byung-kyu, who is now a television host, claimed that the attack was connected to the ongoing Lee Byung-hun scandal involving the Korean superstar and his alleged ex-girlfriend who is known only as Kwon.

Kang, 36, told reporters as he left a police station in Seoul that he will lodge a formal complaint against the president of the production company, a Mr Chung, later this week.

He had previously turned himself in after being summoned for questioning regarding allegations that he had hired gangsters to rough up staff members of the agency that worked on "Iris".

Kang also denied rumours that claim it was he who introduced Lee to his alleged ex-girlfriend and pressured her to file a lawsuit against the "Iris" and "GI Joe" star after they parted ways.

Kwon, a former Canadian national athlete, Kwon had brought a lawsuit against Lee on December 8, accusing him of luring her into a sexual relationship with false promises of marriage.

She also claimed that Lee had gambled illegally while he was filming in the United States and Canada. She is seeking 100 million won (S$119,000) in damages.

"I know Kwon following an introduction from one of my acquaintances. I am not directly connected with the scandal," Kang explained.

He claimed the whole affair started after he began to receive threatening calls from "people from Taewon Entertainment", the production firm behind "Iris", following rumours that he engineered Kwon's law suit against Lee.

He decided to visit the shooting location of "Iris" to clear the air but was instead accosted by Chung, his aides and thugs "with baseball bats and steel chairs" for "20-30 minutes", resulting in injuries which took three weeks to heal.

Kang also denied allegations that he hired gangsters to attack Chung's associates in a tit-for-tat act of revenge. The police have been investigating the matter since December 17.

Kang had just served his sentence of 160 hours of community service in April this year after he was convicted for illegal online gambling in February.

Amid the allegations and counter-allegations continued in Seoul, Lee's alleged ex-girlfriend, Kwon, has said in an interview with Fuji TV that she will escalate her conflict with Lee.

She said she will intensify her efforts as she was "angry that Lee portrayed himself as the victim" in the public letter he had put up on his blog earlier this month.

Lee had expressed in his letter that Kwon's allegations were "malicious" and that she was "distorting the facts".

Lee has counter-sued Kwon for libel.

[News]Lee Byung Hyun's Accuser Finally Talk

Lee Byung-hun’s estranged ex-girlfriend, Kwon Mi-yeon (22) was interviewed by Korean online news site, Newsis where she revealed her side of the relationship with the actor.

When did you first meet Lee Byung-hun?

"Last year in September. Lee Byung-hun was in Canada to promote the film, “The Good, the Bad and The Weird”…from the first moment, he showed strong interest…even when he flew to New York after leaving Toronto, he kept contacting me. And after New York, he came back to Canada. He said it was to see me. At the time, I thought he really liked me."

What did you like about him?

"When Lee Byung-hun wanted to come back to Canada from the U.S., I told him that if he wanted to just have fun for a night, then he should fly straight to Korea. However, he told me that I was special….and because of that, he wanted to see me again. Afterwards, he introduced to his friends, and even invited me to his house…I believed him. He kept his word. If he said he would call at a certain time, he would."

So Lee Byung-hun invited you to visit Korea and you came?

"Last year in October, he send the plane fare to my mother’s account and told me to visit him in Korea. So in November, I visited Korea. For 10 days I stayed with Lee Byung-hun at his home in Bundang. He introduced me to his family and friends as his girlfriend. I hung out with his mother and sister…and went out drinking and traveling with his friends. That year at the end of December to January 2009, we spent the holidays in Las Vegas at M hotel. Also, he invited me to go to Las Vegas with him again in April."

So why did you leave everything behind to live in Korea?

"Lee Byung-hun introduced me to his friends and family and acted as if we were going to get married. His Japanese sponsor, Mr A told me that if I live in Korea, I can go to university there. Lee Byung-hun told me to move to Korea and that he promised that he will take care of everything. I moved to Korea with the blessing of my mother."

What about the demand for 2 billion won?

"Who started the demands, I don’t know. But everything is being processed through the courts. I have the evidence."

How was life after moving to Korea?

"I moved last July. At first, I lived in a 24 pyung apartment in Jamsil with a 1 year lease. However, Mr A told me that he can no longer help. And in September, I was kicked out of the apartment. And Lee Byung-hun started to act strange when I moved to Korea. After I moved out of the apartment, LBH got me a place for 10 million deposit at 700,000 won rent a month in Bongcheon-dong. Afterwards, I didn’t hear from him. I called him and he wouldn’t answer. Now, I am staying with a friend. The place in Bongcheon-dong is too scary so I moved out."

Relationship between men and woman can break up…

"Sure. However, the breakup was different. We did not break up, he threw me away. And without reason. I cannot speak Korean that well and the culture is different. And to think that I was just a sex partner makes me feel angry."

Lee Byung-hun is being sued by Kwon for 100 million won for defamation.

It’s obvious that the girl wants to get back at the actor for dumping her instead of marrying her. And she never said that he would marry her-she just assumed he would since he introduced her to his friends and family. Doesn’t she know that a guy, especially one with money, will say and do anything to get what he wants? For goodness sakes, the man is 39 and has been around the block more than once (we assume). He is obviously just taking advantage of the girl and playing on her hopes of hooking a big fish with a fat wallet.

Girl should just learn from the experience and move on with her life. Besides, who is going to marry her now with this incident under her belt?

[News] Lee Byung-hun Shares His Thoughts on Rumors

Top actor Lee Byung-hun, who has been sued by his former girlfriend, has posted a message on his personal blog in which he shared his thoughts on the recently circulating rumors about him.

Lee wrote, "I don't know how to begin this message. I wish I were writing it to share good news with you, since I'm posting it for the first time in a while. My agency and attorney tried to dissuade me from doing this but I decided to post this message because many people are worried about me. All the distorted facts and rumors about me will be dispelled in a legal way, even though that might take a while. But what matters most is that things that should have remained as beautiful memories are unfortunately being used for the distortion of facts and that people who once cared about each other have ended up this way. It's very heartbreaking."

Lee also added, "As an actor, I have always believed that sometimes the best way to explain distorted and malicious things is by being reticent. And my belief will not change in the future. Truth is discovered not through words but through one's heart. I apologize for causing trouble to you. I will do my best not to get my colleagues into trouble because of me, since the drama shoot is not over yet. I'll just pretend that nothing has happened. I will always stay where I am, unwavered. Thank you."

Lee's former girlfriend sued the actor on December 8, demanding compensation. A few days later, she sued Lee for illegal gambling. In a press release, Lee's agency said that the actor had dated his former girlfriend from fall last year to spring this year and that he received threatening calls from unidentified men after breaking up with her. They demanded that he pay them 2 billion won. Lee has requested that the Seoul District Court conduct an investigation into what he claims are false accusations.

On December 13, Lee's former girlfriend disclosed photos showing herself with the actor.

[News] Korean actor Lee Byung-hun sued for alleged sexual misconduct

Korean superstar Lee Byung-hun has been sued by an estranged girlfriend for alleged sexual misconduct.

The woman, known only as Miss Kwon, is a 22-year-old Korean-Canadian student studying rhythmic gymnastics at York University in Canada.

Kwon claimed that a friend had introduced her to the "GI Joe" actor in September 2008 while he was on a promotional tour in Toronto for the film "The Good, The Bad and The Weird" which he starred in.

Kwon charged that the 39-year-old Lee lured her into a sexual relationship with false promises of marriage and seeks 100 million won (S$119,000) in damages.

A day after the suit was filed with the Seoul District Court, Kwon also claimed that Lee habitually gambled illegally while filming in the United States and Canada. Exactly when and where these gambling activities took place remains unclear.

Lee's management company BH Entertainment denied all allegations and insisted that "Lee has never committed any act that deserves to be criticised", though a representative admitted that the star "did have a girlfriend whom he met last autumn and broke up with this spring".

BH Entertainment also revealed that Lee had been the target of an extortion attempt in November.

They claimed to have received multiple phone calls from an unidentified man who threatened to expose Lee's relationship with Kwon unless the actor paid him two billion won (S$2.3 million), adding that "all allegations against Lee are apparently to damage his reputation by those with malicious intent".

[News] Lee Byung-heon targeted for blackmail

Get ready for what will surely become another entertainment industry rollercoaster of scandalous claims:Lee Byung-heon, megastar and current lead in KBS drama IRIS, has been accused by a Korean-Canadian woman of sexual misconduct and slapped with a lawsuit. Lee refutes the claims and is fighting back.
According to Lee’s management company, BH Entertainment, the star had been the target of “severely slanderous” phone calls beginning in November from an undisclosed group of men, who blackmailed Lee with threats to “expose him to a scandal” if he did not pay them several billions of won. On December 8, a lawsuit was filed with the Seoul District Court by a 22-year-old Canadian gyopo (a Ms. Kwon), who charged that Lee had lured her into a sexual relationship with false promises of marriage. As a result of the mental and physical harm she suffered, she demanded compensation for damages. The amount is for 100 million won, or roughly $86,000 USD.
The woman in question had been a student studying rhythmic gymnastics at York University in Canada before meeting Lee in September 2008, and was a Canadian national athlete. He had been in Toronto to promote his movie The Good, The Bad, The Weird when they met through a friend’s introduction. The president of a company that sponsored Lee told her that she could continue to study and practice gymnastics in Korea and asked her to move to be with Lee. Lee approved the idea, and she left Canada. However, she says that Lee’s behavior changed after her arrival in Korea, and he grew indifferent. He set her up in a home in Seoul but left her to be alone most of the time. She emphasized, “I believe that as a famous star, he used his celebrity and financial power to merely toy with me then abandon me.”
A BH Entertainment representative explained, “Lee Byung-heon did have a girlfriend whom he met last autumn and broke up with this spring, but the abovementioned men threatened to create falsehoods about him and the ex-girlfriend while demanding money. However, when Lee Byung-heon refused to comply, they presented the woman as plaintiff in a civil suit.” The threats demanded 2 billion won (approx $1.7 million) and the men are said to be connected to Ms. Kwon, although their exact relationship was not disclosed. The rep explained that as Lee’s side had done nothing wrong, they had requested an investigation into the threats. They will counter through legal channels with their own lawsuit for defamation of character.
