UEE busy with golf practice for Birdie BuddyIn anticipation for her second drama project, popstarlet-turned-actress UEE is completely immersing herself in golf practice for Birdie Buddy, where she plays a tomboy from Gangwon-do (where the series will film) who rises to success as a gifted golfer.
This is UEE’s first leading role after she played a manipulative popstar in last year’s You’re Beautiful. With Seo Ji-hye dropping out, one more female lead is still to be cast. Producers explained, “The role will be filled not by a singer like UEE, but an actress,” and expect to make the official announcement soon.
I was more interested when Seo Ji-hye was cast but not so much now, particularly because Lee Yong-woo (so wooden in Style) is the male lead. I won’t write it off entirely, since Birdie Buddy is a manhwa adaptation and the director Yoon Sang-ho has had experience successfully adapting a manhwa to the drama format (Tamra the Island). But I’m not feeling a lot of excitement, either.
Birdie Buddy begins filming with the child actors at the end of March; the adult actors will begin filming in April. This production will film mostly prior to airing, minimizing the live-shoot practice, and doesn’t yet have a broadcast date.

Birdie Buddy finds new lead in Lee Da-heeNot to be confused with Chuno’s Lee Da-hae, actress Lee Da-hee has been selected as the lead in golf drama Birdie Buddy. She’ll join After School’s UEE as another gifted golfer, and takes over the role initially offered to and vacated by Seo Ji-hye.
Her character Hae-ryung is the daughter to the owner of a top golf resort and possesses “perfect golf skills”; thus Hae-ryung’s advantages contrast with the more humble background of UEE’s character Mi-soo. If you’re wondering who the “real” lead is, it isn’t specifically outlined but I had always assumed that it would be Seo Ji-hye, and now Lee Da-hee. (I may be wrong, but that’s what the description suggested to me; in any case, UEE is still considered a lead as opposed to a supporting role.)
Lee Da-hee had roles in 2007’s Legend and 2008’s Secret of Keu Keu Island; she also acted in movies Beyond All Magic and the more recent prison-choir film Harmony, which starred Kim Yun-jin. Or perhaps you’ll recognize her as Choi Ji-woo’s little sis in 2007’s Air City.
The Group Eight production will begin filming in Gangwon-do on March 25.
