BEAST started off 2010 in glory after winning rookie award on the 3rd of last month at the 19th Seoul Music Awards.
The spirit of their fandom was passionate even from their debut. During music programs or other shows, screaming and applause for them compared to other singers was greater. Because of this people are saying ‘BEAST has risen’.
Their recently revealed song ‘Shock’ was able to remain in the top on various music charts among many girl groups such as Girls Generation, Kara, T ara, upholding the dignity of male idol groups. ‘Shock shows a strong sound and a powerful performance. The music video, as well, showed off these charms. They are sexy, powerful, and tough enough to make even 2PM, known as representative beast-dols, feel threatened. BEAST said they would like to show a manlier side of themselves.
“Our debut song, ‘Bad Girl’, showed a loose, bouncy charm, while ‘Mystery’ was a bit more powerful than ‘Bad Girl’. We want ‘Shock’ to show a stronger and manlier image. We tried to give off a more composed feeling with smoky makeup and black outfits.
They confessed they were even a bit scared at first. From their debut, they approached fans with friendliness so they worried that the powerful image was too much of an extreme change. However, their worry was unneeded. In fact they have been receiving comments such as, “Their manlier charms fits them better,” from fans. BEAST was extremely relieved with this reaction.
Each member’s growing popularity is causing a synergy effect. For example fan girls are calling Lee Kikwang, who appeared in MBC’s sitcom ‘High Kick Through the Roof’, ‘cute’. His acting is also receiving praise. Yoon Doojoon, who appears on variety shows such as MBC ‘Sunday Night’ corner ‘Danbi’ and ‘Sebakwi’, shows off his manliness with his soccer player physique and his sense of humor with his impersonation of announcer Hwang Sookyung. Yang Yoseob, who hears that he looks like a shih tzu, has cute looks that makes fan girls want to protect him. Yong Junhyung, with his Mohawk hairstyle, received jealousy from fans after his kiss scene with Yoo Ina during a music video filming in his cameo appearance in ‘High Kick Through the Roof’.
