It has been six days since JYP(E) has announced that Jaebum will not be returning to 2PM because of an "important personal mistake". A meeting was held on the 27th with 100 fans, the remaining 2PM members, and JYP officials to clarify the situation. Instead of clarifying, however, it seems the conferences has added feul to the fire.
Not even a week has passed and already so much has happened within the online community. The opinions of fans have exploded all over the internet. The news of Jaebum's permanent withdrawal has shocked not only fans, but the all of the entertainment industry. (In fact, the entire entertainment industry believed that JYP(E) was preparing for Jaebum's return.)
The conference ultimately resulted in confirming JYP(E)'s decision to accept Jaebum's permanent withdrawal with no possibility of a return to 2PM. And as a result, many fans are still protesting JYPE and the remaining members. Some fans have even gone as far as becoming "anti-fans" and boycotts are continuing. Though there is no way to determine the number of fans that are protesting, this event will not be forgotten easily.
2PM has gained much popularity through their advertisements for food, beverages, clothing, and various other advertisements, and have even called "entertainment idols", "acting idols". Taecyeon and Wooyoung are not only the MCs for SBS Inkigayo, but also a regular on SBS "Family Outing" (Taecyeon) and talkshow MC on KBS "Win Win" (Wooyoung). Also, Taecyeon will make his acting debut this coming March in KBS mini-series "Cinderella's Sister". With the events that have transpired, will they [2PM] be able to succeed in their additional activities?
For now it seems that all their activities will contintue as planned. Representatives from the various programs 2PM members are involved with have stated that, "There are no plans for 2PM to stop their activies. 2PM will continue with their activies and will think of this situation as a passing storm". Another representative stated "The guestbook has been filled with comments from 2PM fans, but it seems as though it is slowly dying down. We thought the number of fans that would boycott would affect our broadcast, but it hasn't at all".
However, this past weekend Taecyeon and Wooyoung went on to MC SBS "Inkigayo", to which fans responded with statements such as, "This is ridiculous" and "I feel betrayed". Fans say that without knowing what the "personal mistake" is, they cannot accept Jaebum's permanent withdrawal from the group. And as a result, fans have taken their anger out on the remaining members as they go on with their various activities through either leaving comments on a program's guestbook or writing something on the internet. The future of the remaining members looks worrisome as they are idols that make a living off their image.
However this situation may end, we will be watching 2PM closely, both as entertainers or singers.
