[News/Videos]Documentary Featuring Rain Claims 3 Asian TV Awards

A documentary featuring Korean singer and actor Rain won three awards at the 14th Asian Television Awards (ATA), according to the singer's agency J.Tune Entertainment, Friday.

``Hip Korea ― Rain,'' took home three awards, including the runner-up in the Best Music Program category, the Best Infotainment Program and the Best Cross Platform Content.

The final announcement for the awards was confirmed at the ATA 2009 Gala Dinner held in Singapore, Dec. 3.

The documentary featured the past, present and future of the 27-year-old, who starred in the recently released movie ``Ninja Assassin'' produced by the Wachowski brothers, with the dynamic city of Seoul as the backdrop. It carried the story of the young aspiring singer who had to work hard to make it to the top and also his ongoing efforts in not only singing, but also acting and designing.

The program's crew filmed the star for six months, covering him up-close and personal, including interviews with the singer's friend and fellow entertainer Kim Jae-dong, U.S. television host Stephen Colbert and also Susan Sarandon who co-starred with him in the film ``Speed Racer.''
The program aired in various countries after production, starting with Australia, New Zealand and then around Asia.

[News] ‘Nobody’ Picked Best Song by Filipino Fans

MANILA ― The Wonder Girls’ “Nobody” has been voted as the Song of the Year in an online poll by about 3,000 Filipino fans.

The results of the poll conducted in November were announced during the first Philippine K-Pop Convention on Dec. 5 in Muntinlupa City, Philippines.

Super Junior’s third album “Sorry, Sorry” claimed Album of the Year, and Girls Generation’s “Gee” won Music Video of the Year.

Kim Hyun-jung, leader of boy band SS501, was voted the Hottest Male K-pop Star for 2009 and 2NE1’s Park Bom as the Hottest Female K-pop Star.

The Best New Artist award went to all-girl pop group 2NE1 and Kang Dae-sung of Big Bang was voted as Best Variety Idol.

The K-pop Convention was the largest gathering of K-pop fans, with 13 Filipino fan clubs of K-pop idols participating in the event.

[News] Wonder Girls Launch Korean Music Invasion

The Wonder Girls, a five-member, all-girl band from South Korea, took the hit reality show “So You Think You Can Dance” by storm last night (Dec. 9) and may well launch the Korean invasion of U.S. pop music.

The oldest Yubin , 21, joined band in late-2007. Sunye (Sun), the leader of the group, and Ye-eun (Yenny) are 20 years old. At 17, Sunmi (Mimi) and Ahn So-Hee are the youngest members.

Kim Hyun-Ah left the group because of health problems in mid-2007 and was replaced by Yubin, making her the newest member. Hyun-Ah joined another girl-group, 4Minute, this year.

The band’s performance on last night’s show gave them their first exposure before a major U.S. audience, but they have already caught the attention of the music industry, including Dave Stewart, formerly of The Eurythmics.

Stewart is producing their first album, set for release in February. The group is also planning to launch a headlining U.S. tour in January.

The Wonder Girls became the first Korean singers to ever enter the U.S. singles charts in October, landing at 76 on Top-100 singles charts with virtually no promotion.

They performed the hit “Nobody,” with Kris Allen, the season eight “American Idol’ winner. Allen also performed his newest single “Live Like We’re Dying.”

The girls are already major pop stars on the Korean peninsula and were introduced as a “pop sensation” on the Fox program’s Web site.

“They are the striking chord with a young U.S. audience,” their producer and manager, singer-songwriter Park Jin-Young, said in a release.
The girls also have opened for the Jonas Brothers on the North American leg of the Jonas Brothers World Tour 2009 and have two No. 1 hits in Korea, “Tell Me” and “So Hot.”

The Wonder Girls appeal to young tween fans because of their cute and easy-to-follow dance moves and lyrics.

In a testament to their potential, the group has signed a management contract with the Jonas Group and Hollywood’s Creative Artists Agency (CAA) which will rep them in the United States.

Stewart announced his collaboration with the Wonder Girls on Twitter over the wekened along with a short demo of “Always Without Me,” which will be on the Girls’ new album.

The Eurythmics, which included Stewart and Annie Lennox, had a string of hits in the 1980s including “Sweet Dreams (Are Made of This)” and “Here Comes the Rain Again.”

Super Junior Shindong has revealed his difficulty when doing the show for children of MBC “BoBoBo”.

On the show SBS “Quiz! Sixth sense”, there is a question “Which behavior of the children is not good ?”, Shindong said both angrily and jokingly “Everyday the kids who are on the show with me always make fun of me because I’m chubby”.

[News]Wonder Girls a hit in YouTube

The five-member Korean girl group Wonder Girls made another successful appearance on a mainstream U.S. main broadcast on Wednesday (Dec. 9). After their performance on FOX TV’s “So You Think You Can Dance: Season Six” the group came first in the Hottest Searches list on Google, the major Internet search engine.

So You Think Can Dance is a highly popular dance audition program in the United States that showcases various genres of dance. A kind of elimination game show, the idea is to choose the best performer or performing group each show. Wonder Girls danced to their U.S. debut song “Nobody” and shed tears of happiness after the performance, according to the news report.

The video clip showing their dancing on the show alone received over 100,000 hits on YouTube, the world famous video sharing website. “We hope this leads to more calls from other American shows and programs,” said JYP Entertainment, the agency for the Wonder Girls.

The five girls, Sun, Yenny, Mimi, Sohee and Yubin have been preparing for their U.S. debut since October 2008. After releasing their first digital single in both the United States and Korea in June 2009, the group joined the Jonas Brothers World Tour 2009 Concert for two months. After their first official show in the United States, the group’s song “Nobody” made it to the Billboard Hot 100 in October, making Wonder Girls the first Asian group to realize the feat in 30 years.

Meanwhile back in Korea, the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism selected Wonder Girls and Korean boy group Big Bang as the Artists of the Year. The two groups are scheduled to receive awards at the 2009 Korea Content Award for their contributions overseas. The boy group performed a similar feat with their hit shows in Japan.

[News] Three Members At Fan Meeting State, “We Hope This Storm Passes Quickly”

The three members of TVXQ (Xiah Junsu, YoungWoong Jaejoong, Micky Yoochun) locked in a legal dispute with SM Entertainment held a charitable fanmeet and met with their fans.

The three presented themselves at 5 pm on the 12th the Seoul Koreyo University Hwajung Gymnasium at the ‘Smile Again’ love sharing event.

According to a representative, the event that was held for an hour had a ‘Q&A Corner’ where the three answered fans’ questions, ‘Tell Me Your Wish’ corner where the three granted fans’ wishes, and a corner where Micky Yoochun sang a song he composed.

Many say that the three were bright and cheerful regardless of the legal dispute.

YoungWoong Jaejoong said, “We’ve changed but our fans have stayed the same. I like that,” and showed how thankful they were to the fans and how bad he felt about the group’s current situation.

Xiah Junsu said, “This is more meaningful as it is the first time we’re doing this just the three of us.”

The two other members prepared a surprise birthday party for Xiah Junsu for his birthday, and showed their brotherly love and affection. As a toast for his birthday, Xiah Junsu said, “I hope that this storm will pass quickly,” and showed that he wanted this lawsuit to end quickly.

Micky Yoochun revealed that he was studying composing and sang one of his compositions and gained great reactions from his fans.

Regardless of the cold weather, thousands of Korean and Japanese fans stood in line to enter two hours before the event. Some fans were seen standing near the entrance without tickets and looked quite disheartening.

Some fans who were not able to enter sat outside and supported the three and showed their love for the three.

The event that was held for free was sold out 8 minutes after ticket reservations were open at 8 pm on the 8th. All the donations collected on this day will be given to a children’s organization.

Led by Korean Drama 'Boys Over Flowers' main lead Kim Hyun Joong, Group SS501 arrived in Hong Kong yesterday, attracted about 500 fans to pick up their flight. Kim Hyun Joong gain popularity around Asia region by his 'Hanazawa Rui' character in 'Boys over flowers', it also caused his group SS501's popularity to increase tremendously.
